Being painter is one thing all unto itself.  It takes dedication to hone your craft.  You can be the best fine artist around, but if you don't market yourself, no one is going to see your work.  You have to ensure that you are working both sides of your business, creating art and marketing yourself.

Selling
abstract paintings is not an easy gig, especially if you are trying to make a living at it;  so until you get to the point where you can hire a business manager and a marketing expert...your doing it on your own.  My #1 tip is dedicating 1-2 hours a day - learning the business side of selling art.   Trust me, it will help you in the long run.  Research your favourite artists and pay attention to what they are doing.  Look at their websites, see what galleries they are represented by and what shows they have exhibited at.   There is a wealth of information on their sites alone.  If they have continued to show at a specific show year after year, then research that art show.  That's a pretty good sign that it means they did well selling their work there.  Research the Art Galleries they are represented by.  Find out if they are taking new submissions and what their submission policy is.   I promise you it's important to study those that came before you.
